I'm Lauren, and I'm an abstract painter.
My art practice has changed dramatically over the years. I once created photorealistic portraits in colored pencil. After feeling burnt out, my work transformed into colorful abstract paintings where I explore the push-pull of control and release that my practice lacked previously. When working with paint of various viscosity and incorporating other media into the work, I learn to let go and explore movement through color. Switching to this focus on the process while still honoring the product has been a healing journey for me to work through self-doubt and trusting my intuition.
I also enjoy sculpting and ceramics as well as occasionally working digitally through design and photography. Outside of art, I am a sign language interpreter and former teacher. My wife, daughter, and pets mean the world to me.
